Lead Product Engineer for embedded contracts and defined projects
Need a hands-on Lead Product Engineer?
When a commercial problem crosses product, engineering and growth, you need somebody who can make the work clear, ship the change and see what happens after release.
I lead product builds, make technical decisions and write the code. I also help teams acquire users, identify and test new revenue streams, and improve business processes. That means working out where the opportunity is, running the growth activity and building the software, integrations and automation to support it.
You don’t need to label the problem before we talk. We’ll look at the customer or business need, agree the area I own and define what evidence will tell us the change worked. I’ll then scope, build, test, release and review it with the people who will run it.
When a product area needs a senior hands-on owner, I can work alongside your team across product decisions, full-stack delivery and production quality. My scope can also include acquisition, new revenue opportunities and the processes that connect them to the product. We agree responsibilities, working pattern and review points before starting, including London onsite or remote working.
RaceMakeinterim engineering leadership across Rust/Tauri, React and AI-assisted telemetry
Indy.ai by Contraa TypeScript extension and AI opportunity-discovery pipeline
Hogsenda TypeScript lifecycle framework for identity, behaviour and messaging
Dinners With Friendsproduct, payments, customer acquisition and operations for a live events business
Growth work covers finding customers, converting demand into revenue and helping people return. I connect campaigns, product changes, measurement and day-to-day processes so the team can test an approach and build on what works.
Your dashboards disagree, events go missing and a simple question about revenue turns into a spreadsheet exercise. I can trace the numbers back to their source, fix the gaps and make the reporting useful for the decisions you need to make.
A useful starting project
A measurement audit and repair: map a priority customer journey, compare the live implementation with the tracking plan, fix agreed discrepancies and document ownership.
The work can include
Tracking plans, instrumentation and event quality
Attribution, funnels, cohorts and commercial dashboards
Product, ads, billing, CRM and lifecycle data joined together
Decision-ready analysis, alerts and operating metrics
What we evaluateCoverage of the agreed tracking plan, duplicate or missing events and reconciliation with source records.
A missing feature, disconnected tools or a manual process keeps getting in the way. I can take it from a rough description of the problem through to working software your team can use and maintain.
A useful starting project
A scoped product build: agree one customer journey, feature or internal workflow and take it through implementation, testing, release and handover.
The work can include
Customer-facing products, websites and conversion flows
Identifying and testing new revenue streams, then building the product features and payment flows to support them
Internal tools, APIs, integrations and automation
Production engineering, testing, telemetry and handover
What we evaluateAcceptance criteria for the agreed workflow, reliability, adoption and any manual work removed.
You’re paying for traffic, but it’s hard to tell whether it brings customers worth keeping. I can follow the journey from advert to revenue, find where it breaks down and improve the campaigns and conversion path.
A useful starting project
An acquisition review and implementation project: trace one campaign through its landing page and conversion path, then address the agreed bottleneck.
The work can include
Paid search, paid social and programmatic acquisition
Campaign structure, budgets, targeting and practical optimisation
Creative, landing pages and conversion journeys
Acquisition automation, feeds and repeatable growth systems
What we evaluateCost per qualified lead or acquired customer, conversion rate and attributable revenue.
People sign up, then go quiet. I can investigate where they get stuck, improve the first useful experience and build the product changes and follow-up that help them come back.
A useful starting project
One lifecycle journey: define an activation or return event, implement the product changes and behavioural messaging, and set up a way to evaluate the result.
The work can include
Onboarding and activation journeys
Behavioural messaging and lifecycle campaigns
Retention, churn and payment-recovery systems
Referral, expansion and re-engagement mechanics
What we evaluateCompletion of the activation journey, repeat use, retention and customer value over an agreed evaluation window.
A hands-on contract inside your team. I can own a product area, technical delivery or the system around it, working with product, engineering and commercial colleagues through release and review. We agree the working pattern, responsibilities and review points before starting.
A bounded audit, implementation or product build. We agree the deliverables, dependencies, fee and delivery window in writing. If discovery is needed before I can price the build, we scope that separately.
A marketing site your growth team can run
For teams whose site is stuck in Framer or Webflow and whose engineers have no time for it: I port the site into a codebase marketing can change, make it measurably faster, and stay on as the engineer who maintains it.
The Revenue Loop Sprint is a specific £12,000 engagement for an established B2B software product: one agreed activation, retention or payment problem, a deployed change and a 30-day evaluation plan. It is not the starting price for every service.
Agreeing successWe choose the measures and baseline for your project before implementation. Delivery commitments are agreed in the scope; a particular commercial uplift is not guaranteed.
Hiring for your team?I’m also open to permanent roles across engineering, product and growth. See my experience and CV.
Getting started
Your workspace, ready for requests
Share a short brief, create your client workspace and start adding requests straight away. You can book a call when it would help; there’s no need to wait for one to get started.
Your brief becomes the first request in your workspace. From there, we agree scope and price, handle approvals and payments, and keep conversations and delivered work together. You approve the proposal before paid work starts.
